LUMBAR INJURY

Avoid pain inducing activities especially bending, for two or three days.
If pain is moderate to severe when upright, rest in lying during this time.
When sitting, ensure comfortable support and avoid slumping in lounge chairs.

Lumbar spine injury can often lead to postural deformity. Here are two common deformities and techniques to correct the posture and improve pain.

If there is pain on sitting or standing, tape the lumbar (as in the diagram) with the person lying on their front (prone). Use pillows under the stomach if the person can't lie flat without pain. Tape from the lower ribs to the level with the buttock dimples (pelvis joint) with 2 or 3 strips of overlapping tape on each side of the spine. See also taping.

If there is buttock or leg pain, you will need a physiotherapy consultation, as in link below.

Pain is often more comfortable in standing and, in that case, walk for 5 minutes every hour.

Progression. Double your walking time every 2 days until back to normal walking and standing time periods.

After 3 days, use advice as at Low Back Assessment link below
