Umoja Community Foundation

The Umoja Community Foundation (UCF), is a Community Based Organisation (CBO) in the Nakivale Refugee Zones, Uganda. The CEO and Founder is an agronomist refugee, Marius Ziganira. The Board Chair is Owen Allen of Dasein Tropic, Australia.

The vision of the Foundation is that refugees are flourishing new societies with free and resilient refugee communities who have access to means of education, training, and commerce as befits an independent and flourishing life.

It has three major program areas:
1. Ecological Agriculture;
2. Building human capacity;
3. Health Systems

Underscored by the necessity for climate change resilience and ecosystem restoration, these program areas currently have projects in:
* Eco-agricultural training for women and children and a seed bank;
* Biochar for agriculture and trading on the carbon market;
* Women’s Leadership and Mental Health
* Entrepreneurship
* Microfinance savings
* Water Filtration and treatment plant;
* Health surveys
* Uwezo program for the empowerment of people with disabilities
* Building a Cultural and Training Centre
