UCF

SEED BANK

Over 2022, fundraising for a seed bank began.

The intention of the seed bank is to multiply the seed available to increasing numbers of farmers through returns from growers. This has so far had a varied outcome with the failure of one significant crop of beans due to an unseasonal hail storm and lack of farming skills.

The learning culture of UCF has created an adaptation that has shown very good yields so that as of Oct 2024, 242 farmers across 7 villages, involved in the program, including that 100 of these received seed in 2024.

Likewise biochar soil amendment in 2025 doubled the bean yield on those fields.
