The value of biochar in soils for improved crop productivity is now well researched.
Since 2022 an international team affiliated with carbon sequestration and CDR, began developing a biochar project for agriculture biochar and trading sequestered carbon on the carbon market. The team includes: Chris Neidl (Open Air Collective, USA); Lionel and Chris Clarke (BionerG, C-Go, UK).
As of August 2023, the team have funded the manufacture and installation of a biochar kiln system with sensors and data box for the measurement of weight of biochar for accrediting carbon sequestration for sale on the carbon market. 3 biochar manufacturing kilns were provided initially and innovative technology from BionErg allows accurate measurement of carbon for marketing. Just a few packages of carbon have been sold on the carbon market but this is expected to become a steady flow of sales as the auditing to marketing system flow is solved.
Training for the manufacturing team among refugees, including patented sensor tech, commenced online in real practice in April 2023 with accreditation of biochar manufacturing being awarded to seven refugees in September 2024.
In 2025 the manufacturing team passed their training as biochar manufacturing trainers. They are currently available to provide online training for agricultural or carbon-market manufacturers.
As of 2026 the team in Wales has provided 5 kilns each of which can burn 1 tonne of biochar per week. This result will translate into stronger incomes from carbon marketing, and an endless supply of biochar for water filtration and soil amendment in agriculture.
