Liaquat Hussain

Has been working in the horticulture industry of Uganda for the last 7 years.
Before Uganda Liaquat worked with AKRSP(AGA KHAN RURAL SUPPORT PROGRAM)in a 19.5 million US dollar project of USAID.
Milestones :
1. Reduce 70 percent of insecticides used in gardens of almost 6000 farmers.
2. Reduce 90 percent fungicide use in the gardens of almost 6000 farmers.
3. Trained thousands of farmers on agronomy principles to keep the well hydrated landscape and practices to control soil temperature.
4. Trained almost 2500 farmers on aerobic composting.
5. Experience in managing 1500 acres of avocado plantation, 700 acres of macadamia plantation, 90 acres of coffee plantation and 60 acres of cocoa plantation.
6. Addressed livelihood challenges of 10000 households while working with AKRSP(Aga Khan Rural Support Program ) in the mountain region of Pakistan.

As the lead agronomist for the largest macadamia grower in Uganda, AMAFH Farm Limited, Liaquat also provided extension education to the many smallholder macadamia and horticulture farmers across Uganda, especially increasing soil water holding capacity. 

He currently consults for Avotein Farms, a large avocado farm, and the smallholder avacado farms who market through them. In this he teaches how to grow crops between the avocado, manage the rhizosphere, minimal tillage, and reduce poison chemical application.

He also provides workshops voluntarily under Agri Aid Foundation and YES Global Initiative, to small holder farmers. 

Liaquat has also joined the Umoja Community Foundation eco-agriculture team to develop methods for improving the capacity of food production in the Nakivale Refugee Camps.
