ANKLE - FOOT INJURY

Use RICE guidelines for 2-3 days.
Apply compression bandage with the ankle in a square position as in the image. Continue bandaging daily until the swelling is 50% resolved.

If the pain is behind the ankle or leg (calf muscle or tendon) then see taping.

If unable to weightbear, use crutches or walking frame to move to necessary activities e.g toilet, shower, meals. SEE GAIT ASSESSMENT

When unable to weightbear, mimic walking by placing the injured foot lightly on ground with each step.

Increase weightbearing from day to day, allowing moderate pain, until able to weightbear through a flat foot.

Use crutches until can fully weightbear with only a mild limp.

When able to weightbear, and swelling is 50% resolved, use rigid tape support as in image.

After 3 days use Ankle Foot Assessment as per link below to guide your next action to recovery.

Whenever progress stalls for 5 days, book a consultation with the physiotherapist as below.
